Walk With God

“And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him” (Gen. 5:23-24). “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked” (1 John 2:6). “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” (Mic. 6:8).
Only the humble will be privileged to walk with God. God will not walk the road of the proud. Together with humility, God requires a fair and forgiving heart of those who would walk with Him.
To walk with God is to follow the will and the way of God. It means that there will be companionship with God. This relationship will be similar to a husband and wife relationship. There will be a communication with Him. Where God walks He invites man to walk with Him. With the hand in God’s hand, all can safely walk on God’s road. God will not lead over terrain that is not possible for man to walk. God’s road is narrow and steep, but it is a safe road.
A walk with God is the most rewarding experience in life. This is true in the emotional, spiritual, and physical sense. This will include a daily time of prayer and Bible reading. The hope of salvation will be renewed from time to time. There are at least three things that take place in walking with God. One is a love for the will of God. Another is a love for the creation of God. And yet another is a love for the people of God. To fellowship with others who are also walking with God is a delight and an uplift of spirit. To regularly worship with believers will be a diligent pursuit. Scripture is the guide for living and attitudes.
To walk with God is to entrust the future into His care. The fear of the unknown is subdued. The one who walks with God will not easily worry and fret. God’s counsel will be sought for the choices and decisions that need to be made.
Walking with God is a life of obedience to the will of God. The prompting of the Spirit will be learned and understood. To knowingly disobey the Spirit will remove the close walk with God.
By walking with God, His creation will be enjoyed. Every morning, with the glory of a rising sun, will be a good morning. To God and His creation at the close of the day will be a good night. The wonders of nature will be an inspiration to praise God. God will receive glory and thanks for His wonderful gifts of nature to man.
By walking with God, His child will soon learn to have a greater love and respect for brethren and other people. The good of others will be noticed and there will be less criticism and more lifting out their good points. A helping hand will be extended in time of trouble.
In brief, to walk with God will be to obey Him, to trust Him, to converse with Him, to thank and to love Him. Finally, to walk with God will be to walk to heaven’s door and there be granted entry into that eternal realm.
