Destiny

“Enter ye at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way , which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matt. 7:13-14).
At life’s conception, destiny is also conceived. Life cannot be without a destiny on the horizon. The span of life itself will hold brief destinies, but the eternal destiny is reached when the journey of life is finished.
The conclusive destiny is reached at the journey’s end. No journey begins without an end whether so planned or not. For some, life’s trip is short, and for some the trip is longer. The length of the trip does not decide where the destiny, it is the mood of the traveler that determines where the trip will conclude.
When life begins, eternity also begins; but for the moment, eternity is subject to time. Time is a span of measurement. Thus life is metered. When life ends, the meter stops, but eternity continues. Life is metered by years, days, and moments. This meter will expire at an unknown time.
In life, time has value. Goals are set to be reached and tasks are to be accomplished within a specified time. This puts an intense tempo on the activities of life. This tempo makes life hazardous and can create emotional stresses.
It is often because of this setting of frenzy that many fail to give attention to their ultimate destiny. At the final destiny of eternity, there will be no expirations. A day may seem as a thousand years, and a thousand years will seem but a day. In life, time and eternity abide hand in hand. Life’s doings always have a bearing on both time and eternity. Death often forgives life’s foolery, but eternity forever holds the record, unless the blood of Christ has washed the record clean. At death, time dies, but eternity continues its relentless and motionless reign. In eternity there will be no deadlines or any further destinies. Eternity will make no history nor will it make any future projections, for there will be no calendar there.
Early in life a dividing of the road is reached. The signs at the dividing tell about the two roads ahead. The one sign tells of a narrow and steep road that will make travel a bit difficult, but it promises a joyous and beautiful journey’s ending, and a glad reunion awaiting. There will be no regrets at the end of this road. The rewards will be indescribable. The other sign promises easy traveling on a wide and smooth road with much frivolity along the way. It does not hinder the easy traveling with warnings of the end, for it makes no mention of the destruction and torment at the end of the way.
The signs along the way are certain, and the warnings are clear as to where the road is leading. There are no reasons for any to be misled into taking an unwanted road. The options are open, and to be neutral is not possible. Every road traveled has its destiny. All roads lead to an eternal destiny. A destiny when reached is unchangeable—choose your destiny today.
