The Promises of God

The promises of God to man recorded in the Bible have been tallied by students as 7,487! Our subject, then, is so vast that it is quite impossible to study it in depth. Let us, however, “feed” for awhile on His precious promises, and we will be thrilled to see anew the magnitude of the riches of His grace. And to think they are available to every believer!

Our Redeemer

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).

The Spiritual Mind

“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be” (Rom. 8:6-7).
Man, being made in the image of God, has the capacity to think as God thinks. As God divides between good and evil so, too, man is able to divide between that which is good and that which is evil.

Walk With God

“And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him” (Gen. 5:23-24). “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked” (1 John 2:6). “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” (Mic. 6:8).

Grace

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men” (Titus 2:11). “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved)” (Eph. 2:4-5). “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain” (Gal. 2:21).

The Identified Christian

Our title has in mind two perspectives: Does the world know who the Christian is, and does the Christian himself know who he is? If the person who answers to the Christian name doesn’t really know who he is, neither will the world truly know his identity.
Most people, some more than others, have an interest in their “roots.” The essence of those roots is not found exclusively in one’s biological line of descent. One’s roots may also include culture and creed or defining epics.

Freedom

“If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31,32). “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (v.36).

A disciple of Christ is one who lives in His Word. We cannot separate discipleship from the Word of Christ. To live in the Word of Christ means to follow its injunctions. A disciple of Christ will obey and teach the teachings of Christ. The word continue indicates to endure. A Christian disciple will endure all that the Word implies.

Destiny

“Enter ye at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way , which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matt. 7:13-14).
At life’s conception, destiny is also conceived. Life cannot be without a destiny on the horizon. The span of life itself will hold brief destinies, but the eternal destiny is reached when the journey of life is finished.
